Senate confirms Owen for 5th circuit court

Owen Originally uploaded by EmploymentLawyer.
The 56-43 vote to appoint Owen to the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was a consequence of an agreement reached earlier this week that averted, for the time being, a bitter dispute over Democratic use of the filibuster to block Bush's judicial choices.

Owen, who has been the most activist and politically conservative judge on the Texas Supreme Court for years, will now be in a position to rule on federal employment discrimination laws. There is no doubt that her appointment is a great victory for big business interests in the 5th Circuit as Ms. Owen has proven time and time again that she will go to great lengths to rule against employees and the rights of individuals regardless of the facts or applicable legal standard.
