What is actionable retaliation?

Under applicable state and federal laws, an employee who reports, complains of or opposes workplace harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation or pregnancy is protected from retaliation by his/her employer. Protected activity includes making a complaint, seeking an attorney's advice, participating in an investigation or filing discrimination charge or lawsuit. Under these circumstances, an employer may not fire, demote, or otherwise retaliate against the employee for his/her opposition to discrimination.
